Description of massage treatments
Hot stones massage
Hot stones massage is carried out with basalt stones, heated in hot water. The therapist holds the stones in the palms of her hands and glides them over the client’s skin. The heat of the stones increases blood supply and helps muscles to relax. Working into muscles to release tension and knots is easier if the muscles are warm from the stones. If the client wants deeper work in some areas, this can be done with the edges of the stones or trigger point stones. Read more about hot stones massage.

Aromatherapy massage
Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils from plants to benefit health and well being. Essential oils have various health benefits, depending on which plant they come from. Unlike many alternative therapies, aromatherapy has a basis in science. It’s well established that the chemical components of the oils have beneficial properties. In fact, some oils are used in the manufacture of pharmaceuticals. However, as with all alternative therapies, how effective they are varies from person to person. In general though, depending on the oils used, aromatherapy massage can help to:
- Reduce tension in muscles
- Soothe aching muscles
- Promote a feeling of calm and well being
- Reduce stress and anxiety
- Encourage healing of muscle damage
- Invigorate the body and mind
- Aid relaxation and sleep
- Improve skin tone and encourage healthy skin cell renewal
- Assist lymphatic drainage
- Boost the immune system
Massage for tension headache
Massage can be very effective in relieving tension headaches. All the above treatments offer benefits for headache relief. Hot stones treatments encourage the muscles in the neck and shoulders that cause headaches to relax and let go. Many aromatherapy oils are muscle relaxants, which when used for massage help to loosen up tight muscles. The massage segment of facial treatments can be very helpful because it works on the muscles at the front of the neck that are often tight and tense, as well as the muscles that control the jaw. The scalp massage included in the treatment also helps to release headache causing tension.
Massage for tense shoulders
Tense shoulders is a common problem. It can significantly impact on quality of life, causing discomfort, restricted mobility, headaches and increased chance of injury. The two main cause of shoulder tension are desk/screen work and stress, but there are various other possible causes too. Massage for tense shoulders loosens up existing restrictions as well as promoting relaxation and stress reduction.
